This rum from Rhode Island is crafted from distilled blackstrap molasses and then aged for a minimum of two years in oak barrels. The Newport Distilling Co. distillers consulted historical records and traditional production methods from the Newport Historical Society to inform their rum-making process.

Compared with Havana Club 7 Year and Ron Diplomatico Reserva. Light mahogany orange color. Noticeable vanilla on the nose, along with burnt marshmallow, which carries to the palate, joined by orange creamsicle and a woody note. Decent length on the finish, with a woody, but not unpleasant, drying sensation. My preferred choice of the three, although that's a somewhat backhanded compliment.
Sharp caramel nose with a hint of seagrass and almonds. It's almost like a mild cognac. The body is warm and smooth, slightly oily with notes of molasses, raisins, and green apples.
Slight sweetness and a clean finish. Tried at the Newport Distillery.
50% alcohol by volume, 100 proof, from Rhode Island, bottled in bond reserve.
