I acquired this independently bottled Ardmore expression from a local shop, one of a select few to receive these Speakeasy bottlings. My understanding is that these casks are owned by a specific individual who permits a bottling company to store and release them. The shop owner, who personally purchased a few, highly recommended this one, so let's see. Nose: Salt and peat are prominent, with an underlying sweetness. It's simple yet appealing. The peat is distinct, briny, not artificial, moderately strong, and clearly the highlight. Palate: Also very good. At 46% ABV, it's stronger than anticipated but blends well with nutty flavors, the caramelized crust of a crisp pie, and light berry notes (strawberry). It's well-balanced and quite potent. The youthful character contributes to this intensity, making for an exciting, fresh, and memorable experience.
