Singleton of Dufftown Spey Cascade

Aroma: Green apples, maple syrup, a subtle lemon note, and a very faint trace of ash or burnt caramelized vanilla sugar. The aroma deepens and gains body with a bit of time in the glass. Palate: A light, grassy, fruity entry with a touch of ginger. The development is limited, offering some apple and walnut notes, along with an almost vodka-like ethanol sensation. The texture is unremarkable but acceptable. Finish: Brief. Mildly spicy and fruity, with a faint saltiness lingering. This smells more like a mid-tier blend than a malt whisky, and the taste aligns with that. The profile is straightforward, centered on apple-juice characteristics (perhaps some pear notes too), diluted honey or syrup, and mild spice. It's not bad, but it's also not particularly exciting. It can be sipped neat, though not without effort, and doesn't offer much to savor. It's better suited as a mixer for longer drinks. It competes in the same price range as several superior single malts and doesn't hold up to comparison. It's also surpassed in both price and quality by the typical blended malts like Naked Grouse and Monkey Shoulder, and even some blended scotches offer more for less money. I haven't been impressed by any bottling of Singleton and don't anticipate purchasing this again. "Average": 75/100 (2.25 stars)

Nose: Abundant green apples and vanilla. Subtle spice notes like cinnamon and ginger complete an adequate aroma. The taste is upfront with a quick dry finish and mild spice at the end. Initial taste is full malt and sweet with tart apple and spice quickly following. In many respects, it's a decent drink that never progresses beyond the basics. In essence, it possesses many qualities of something more remarkable, but the execution is lacking. For its price point, it's acceptable, and you can find much worse, but perhaps a few others in this category offer a more complete and satisfying experience. Many thanks to Cascode for the sample.

Aroma. Uncomplicated, vanilla, toffee, baked apples, oak shavings, peaches, a trace of cinnamon. Taste. Mild, a combination of fruity sweetness and slightly spicy notes, walnuts, brown sugar, a trace of hay. Finish. Medium length, fruity sweetness and oak bitterness.

Mild and sweet, initial and secondary notes are good, even very good, but the final one is terrible. Cannot recommend.

Smooth whisky with a slightly sweet finish.
