A full-bodied Spiced Rum, pot-distilled on the Virgin Islands. Fermented from molasses derived from sugar cane grown near riverbanks. Natural yeasts are employed for fermenting the diluted molasses, which matures for 12 to 24 months before being infused with a blend of spices, including cinnamon, ginger, and clove. It presents an aromatic beginning with hints of rich chocolate, coffee, and cinnamon; its full body offers notes of caramel, chocolate sweetness, molasses, vanilla, clove, cinnamon, ginger, and galangal; culminating in a long and warming conclusion with hints of vanilla, a touch of coffee, and a whisper of pepper. The nose of whiskey and licorice hints at a more aggressive burn than what is experienced. In truth, it is exceptionally smooth, offering a harmonious mix of sweet and spicy notes. The texture on the palate is agreeably substantial, leaving a lasting impression after every taste. I didn't detect the cinnamon or caramel flavors others noted until it was combined with cola, when they became quite distinct.
Immediately thick and rich. Pronounced vanilla, dark sugar, and caramel, concluding with a medium-length spiced finish, predominantly cinnamon. It serves as a standard introduction for many to premium rums, though my palate no longer favors this particular one. It's a definite step up from Morgan and Bacardi. It also blends well with root beer, as the dark molasses notes integrate nicely.
This rum has a distinct characteristic of sweet spiced aromas, like coffee, vanilla, cocoa, malolactic, and licorice. However, it ends up very watery in the mouth, lacking intensity and balance. The huge, tasty aromas save it; without them, it's just average. It's perfect for mixing; it needs more body to be appreciated on its own.
Among the poorest rums available. It's not a genuine spiced rum compared to brands like Blackheart, Sailor Jerry, or Bacardi Oakheart, as they use artificial flavorings added post-distillation. 0.25* rating is generous given their outstanding marketing, bottle, and labels; however, the rum resembles the smell of dirty gym socks masked by a bottle of vanilla extract.
Strong vanilla scent. On the tongue, it's sweet and strong with alcohol, molasses, vanilla, and cinnamon. The finish is brief with a touch of baking spice. Quite enjoyable but not my first choice. Would likely make a fantastic rum cake, I'd wager.
