Glenlivet Captain's Reserve

This is a bottle I hadn't planned on purchasing. I enjoy Glenlivet malts, so when I saw this on sale, I brought it home. And I must say, I'm glad I did! Nose: Honey, sweetness from the bourbon casks, and the cognac shine through positively. Hints of pear and zest from oranges/grapes. Taste: Pure, rich apricot, orange, honey sweetness, and dare I say, star anise? Finish: Long and strong, a really nice sipping whisky. After researching it, I'm ecstatic! What a bargain! I bought it for $35 USD (209 DKK), and I see the average price is $65-$80 USD (349-449 DKK). Regarding the branding, I agree with the flavor profile. So, all in all, go get it; it's truly worth it.

I acquired this along with Glenlivet's Founder's Reserve during a promotion. My first time purchasing it, and likely the last. The aroma, like most Glenlivets, is appealing, though this was less pronounced or pleasant. It had notes of leather, a bit of citrus, and some honey. The palate: simple and monotonous. It hits the mouth with leather and fruit, but seems very diluted. The finish is short with no lingering taste. It's not smooth, it's not strong, it lacks complexity - but it is Scotch. Considering the cost, and that the aroma is reminiscent of Glenlivet, I rate it a 1.

This is a fantastic scotch. I always felt the 15 year old was lacking something and a bit dull. The Captain's Reserve possesses that missing element. It's just as smooth, but the flavor is more distinct, and the cognac finish provides a nice rounding. Both are typically around $70CAD, but can be found for $20 less on sale; I'll always choose the Captain going forward.

Great, good, and inexpensive! A pleasant surprise on a stormy winter celebration evening. When I smelled this glass, I immediately thought of a bottle costing over $100. But for under $70, this honeyed scotch should soon be in my collection. The only downside: it's not available online!

The Captain's Reserve offers a very sweet profile upfront, which I truly appreciate; it's likely my preferred type of scotch. The ex-sherry cask imparts the desired sweetness with lovely notes of honey, vanilla, and marshmallow, along with fruitiness, all balanced by spice from the ex-bourbon cask.

A distinct aroma of apricot jam. Very sweet and inviting. Deep, intense, and vibrant palate! A slight hint of apples, a genuine confirmation of apricot jam with an interesting spice. Reminds me of delicious cinnamon bread. Moderately strong but smooth finish that leaves you wanting more.
