In my early days as a whisky enthusiast, I consistently followed a prominent critic on YouTube. This individual is a significant figure in the whisky world, much like others you might know. This well-known personality's preference for a particular single malt led its distillery to create a special bottling for his website. This special release was a 59.9% ABV single Port Cask Matured expression, aged 13 years, from the 2006 vintage. A very limited number of bottles were produced, and I managed to obtain one. It possesses an exceptionally vibrant reddish hue, is non-chill filtered, and has no added coloring. On the nose, it is incredibly amazing. Notes of red fruits, Crème Brulee, maraschino cherries, glazed ham, school glue, and some floral elements are present. After the initial taste, the aroma transformed into sour prunes, red chili, molasses, and quince. Further sips evolved the aroma to strawberry preserves and dried coffee. The palate is robust and magnificent. There's an intense maraschino cherry character, potent red chili, and strawberries. With additional sips, it evolves into a cherry juice flavor, alongside cinnamon, quince, and Christmas cake. The finish clearly showcases the 59.9% ABV, but in a pleasant manner. Hints of sulfur, copper, red fruits, strawberries, cinnamon, and aniseed are detected, along with prunes. Overall, this was an extraordinary single malt that doesn't feel as strong as its proof suggests, a testament to its remarkable crafting. Everything this distillery produces is excellent, and a high-proof expression was no exception. It's flawless, earning a perfect score from me.
