Tattersall Straight Rye Whiskey

Aroma: Wow, rye bread, like bagel chips. Body: Mild. Taste: Spicy, rye, vanilla. Finish: Brief, with a rye bread character. Commentary: After this experience, I'm not sure rye is my thing, but it's intriguing. It's overwhelmingly rye-forward; I'm curious about the grain composition. Let's see how my opinion evolves.

My first time writing tasting notes, and my first rye. I notice a powerful rye spice at first, followed by a strong sweetness that tempers it. Imagine rye bread and the typical flavor you'd expect from a rye whiskey; this is it.

A spicy kick upon the first taste. The finish is very chocolatey, reminiscent of chocolate velvet cake or candy with raspberry notes. Adding ice helps to soften the initial intensity.

I enjoyed it in an Old-Fashioned. Trying it neat resulted in a significant burn going down. I'll stick to using it in Old-Fashioneds or Manhattans.

Full-bodied. Powerful and bold with spice, and a slightly longer finish than another specific whiskey. A higher proof version is available at some retailers.

This is quite enjoyable, particularly considering the cost. It's the second product from this company I've sampled, and both have been respectable.
