Talnua Peated Cask Whiskey

Interesting. I commend the US for developing its own single malt industry with unique flavors that set it apart from Scotch, Japanese, Taiwanese, Indian, etc. whiskies. The triple distillation provides an Irish-like foundation. However, the creamy caramel notes add an American touch. The peat from the casks is more noticeable than in other peated casks I've tried, which is impressive. Parts of it taste like it's only been aged 18 months, but overall it presents as at least six years old. I'm curious to try it again later. For now, there are superior whiskeys available at this price point, but if you're seeking a traditionally peated American single malt for your collection, I prefer this over Westland’s Peat Week (while I enjoy the peat in some Garryana expressions, they are usually lightly peated in an inventive manner).

Immediately reminds me of Irish whiskey, with a light peat presence. The palate has significantly more flavor than the aroma, featuring deep, rich caramel and that grassy pot still taste, followed by a spicy peat finish and then a burn. It has good strength and flavor, but lacks much balance. It needs improvement.
