Stronachie 10 Year

A lighter, non-peated Scotch that surprisingly smells more like a Cognac on the nose. The grapey, wine-like flavors are also present on the palate, along with notes of grass and corn. Despite its lighter color, it has a quite solid body and a nice long finish. This is the type of bottle that would make a great gift because I truly can't imagine anyone who likes Scotch even a little bit disliking this, even if it doesn't excel in any single area.

This particular dram was quite easy for me to sip, as it lacked some of the Scotch characteristics I find challenging. While enjoyable, it wasn't remarkable. It felt somewhat thin, and the mouthfeel wasn't very satisfying. The nose on this delicate dram offered notes of Golden Delicious apple and honey. Upon tasting, it felt thin yet creamy. The dominant flavor is a very generic brand of sweetness. Overall, not bad and not great in my opinion.

An elegant Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Benrinnes Distillery in the Highland region of Scotland, aged for 10 years. It presents an aromatic beginning with notes of heather, malt, fresh biscuits, and honey; a rich and spicy middle adds notes of lemon, almond, toffee, shortbread, grain, and spices; leading to a long and balanced conclusion with notes of butter, malt, and caramel. Subtle scent of grain and honey. The palate echoes the nose, featuring a very gentle spice. The honey is intensely sweet and takes center stage. The spice builds in the finish, imparting a pleasant warmth. It has a moderate to light body and depth. A hint of creaminess is present.

The smell brings notes of grain, honey, and citrus. Honey and caramel come through in the taste. A bit of rosemary or cough syrup remains on the finish. Adding a little water enhances the aroma with buttered biscuits and brings out more honey in the flavor.

The aroma brings Balvenie 12 to mind, with a harmony of fruit, sweetness, and spice. It has a medium-light body and notes of tart apples. The finish is brief with a slight burn. It starts off better than it ends, but it's not bad.
