Stray Dog Wild Gin

I was compelled to find a bottle of this. Thus far, I've sampled it neat, on the rocks, in a variation of a gimlet using grapefruit cordial instead of lime, and in a couple of different martinis. Let's explore. On the nose, this gin offers a rich medley of herbs. It's not floral at all, favoring rosemary and sage, with supporting notes of coriander and fennel. Juniper is present, naturally, but it plays a secondary role in this gin. I'll consider this a contemporary gin for my home bar, rather than a classic London Dry. On the palate, the flavor follows the aroma, presenting as an herb garden. It never feels overwhelming; the balance is just right. It evokes a Greek hillside of wild herbs captured in a bottle, much like St. George Terroir captures the fir-covered alpine forests of mountainous California. Excellently crafted! My preferred way to enjoy this is in a Martini, where the gin's herbal character perfectly complements the bitterness of Dolin Dry Vermouth. A 3:1 ratio is ideal, with a few drops of saline and perhaps a dash of orange bitters. Consider it as a Gibson with a few drops of celery bitters (which is precisely what I'm enjoying as I write this). This is a versatile gin, exceptionally well-executed. It's fantastic in gin-forward cocktails (though I wish it had a bit more alcohol content), satisfying on its own, enjoyable with tonic, and superb in a well-made Martini. Highly recommended.

Nose: Musty, Fishy Palate: Lemon, lime, savory, cheese, yerba mate Finish: Mineral, saline, wet rock This is a strange one for a true spirit enthusiast.

Consumed in a Corpse Reviver #2, making specific flavor identification difficult, but I found it enjoyable.
