The aroma is heavily tannic and dry. The flavor is sharp and intense, with the wine barrel's tannin bitterness leading the way. A wave of flavor rides on what I'd describe as the standard Stranahan's Whiskey base, a solid American single malt profile. I still wish it were richer, but the intensity of the flavor is quite enjoyable. It's not often you encounter well-executed bitter flavors in whiskey; points for that.

About this bottle
Stranahan's Distillery is offering an exclusive American single malt whisky that first aged in virgin American oak barrels (level #3 char). Subsequently, the whisky was transferred to Bordeaux and pinot noir wine barrels for an additional three years of aging. The whiskey was diluted to its final proof of 45% ABV using Rocky Mountain water from Eldorado Springs and bottled without chill-filtration. This release has been available at the distillery since June 2023, with a suggested retail price of $69.99.

Full-bodied and smooth, with a distinct red wine character. Definitely worth buying.
