Still Austin Madeira Cask Finished Rye Whiskey

The aroma has cedar chest and red fruit notes. The palate offered an oaky cherry vanilla combination. It was quite oaky but not bitter. The finish is heavy with molasses, some red fruit, and a slight drying sensation, like a popsicle stick, yet it's not too dry and lingers well. The youthful whiskey character is noticeable throughout but not overwhelming like some craft spirits. The Madeira wine component nicely masks it. It tastes like a moderately young Midwinter's Night Dram. However, at $100, I'd rather get the MWND for a bit more. Overall, it's good. It's a more polished version of the Garrison Brothers Guadalupe. Another very young Texas whiskey with a decent finish, but the youthful taste is prominent and doesn't justify the cost. Still Austin did well with their bottled-in-bond series, and based on those, all Still Austin products should start with at least four-year-old spirits. Support local businesses, but don't exploit that support.

Very pleasing aroma and flavor. That dark hue is also quite appealing.
