Kallie Kong 2.3

It's surprisingly strong for a two-year-old spirit. Some heat accompanies a deep, sweet apple flavor, reminiscent of sharp apple cider. A more varied finish would be welcome, but it's satisfactory as is. It's deep and hot with a strong, somewhat bitter undertone. The taste is somewhat uninspired, leaning toward thinness. Hints of nuts, including a touch of coconut, are present. The complexity slowly emerges on the lengthy finish, but I would not select it for sipping if other choices were available. Main tastes are caramel, apples, and alcohol, with notable grain character. The texture is smooth and the flavor leans sweet (quite sweet for a rye). It's an acceptable whiskey. The flavor is somewhat too delicate and mineral-heavy. I'd prefer a different drink. Given the cost, it tastes prematurely aged. Somewhat fruity with a clear apple note and underlying rye spice that appears toward the end. However, it tastes rather weak. That's likely due to its age statement. It's an okay rye, but not a great whiskey. A good amount of grain is present, but it otherwise lacks character.

The rye character really shines through, making this a rugged and interesting experience as expected for a 5-year-old. The 2-year-old is more mellow, with less pronounced rye notes.
