It's always great to sample whiskies from less common whiskey-producing nations. Although Germany has been making whiskey for some time, they aren't typically the first ones that come to mind. St. Killian, a distillery founded in 2012, presents this beautiful bottle shaped like a copper still. This review covers their peated expression, bottled at 46% ABV. The nose is somewhat basic, but the aromas are intriguing: Starburst fruit chew candies, pineapple juice, pineapple pie, and an unidentifiable sugar. After tasting, the aroma shifted to a lotion for burned skin and tropical punch. The palate offers a bit more richness, with notes of smoke, ginger, and pepper. The aftertaste is smoky and direct, yet you can sense the quality craftsmanship. It finishes with pineapple and ash. Overall, this wasn't the smokiest or most remarkable whiskey I've ever had; however, it's a solid choice for a daily drink. I don't find it to be excessively priced and might be worth trying to tick it off your list of whiskies from different countries. The bottle is attractive, and the dram is above average, earning it a score of 83 out of 100.

A very good single malt from Germany. Enjoyed this in the Lufthansa lounge.
