Nose - I've never smelled anything like this! It hits with intense sweetness, but also a lot of dampness. Like a wet carpet or an old cabin. I detect bananas, papayas, grapes, and cloves; it feels very substantial! Very excited to try! Palate - So sweet, like sugar syrup, dessert red wine, molasses, with a heavy mouthfeel. Likely spicy due to its youth. Very oily; I get faint hints of peat, but it's mild. The sherry influence is strong and beautiful! Quite potent as well! Thoroughly surprised and eagerly anticipating what this distillery will offer in the future.

About this bottle
Corriecravie is a core offering from LAGG Distillery, known for its heavily peated single malt from the Isle of Arran. Initial maturation occurred in ex-bourbon barrels, followed by a finish in oloroso sherry hogshead casks obtained from Miguel Martin in Jerez. The spirit was bottled at 55% ABV without chill-filtration or added color. LAGG is named in honor of the last legally established distillery on Arran, which ceased operations in 1837. After its UK debut in summer 2023, it became available in the US in June 2024. (SRP $99.99/700ml)

This is what a new distillery should produce! Beautifully made, the peat is very subtle and only appears after it's been open for a while. But dark fruit is prominent on the nose and palate. I definitely need another taste to get better tasting notes! But great initial impressions.
Sherry aroma followed by a smoky, peppery burst, like bbq; rich yet refined, similar to Ledaig 18 but with more pepper, a fantastic drink!
This is a sweet, smoky whiskey. Tastes like burnt sugar and caramel. It's fantastic! I wish it were more accessible.
A nice balance of peat and dark fruit.
A pleasant whisky with a smoky finish.
