Parker Elkins 4.0

To begin my review, I want to state that I've encountered some negative comments about this, and I can confidently say that those individuals either lack taste or understanding of apple brandy and its production. It's fermented from the fresh juice of Michigan apples and double pot distilled. Aged in 63-gallon once-used, re-charred red wine barrels with a #2 char and a toasted new American oak head. The aroma is vibrant with red apples and some caramel. The mouthfeel is full, with apple pie and spices throughout the palate, including hints of cinnamon. This is exactly where it should be for a 2-year-old spirit, and I appreciate how the wood influence is controlled. It would be a mistake to compare or judge this as a Calvados. I'm interested to see how it ages. My score was 85.
