Despite using the name of Scotland's most famous whisky river, the Spey distillery is not widely recognized. Their single malts come in attractive bottles and are generally well-made with very common flavor profiles. This review is for the Spey Golden Choice, bottled at 40.8% ABV. On the nose, it reminds me of breakfast: honey, hot stroopwafels, and yellow apples. I get more of the same on the palate: honey, apples, and pears. The aftertaste is a balanced conclusion with honey notes, like honey cereal. Overall, this is a very safe and enjoyable whisky. It won't revolutionize your palate, but it's a suitable everyday dram. It's simple yet tasty. I rate it 84 out of 100.
