Shieldaig Highland Single Malt

This is rough around the edges for sure but totally drinkable. Some fruit and ashy smoke in the aroma. The palate is a malty fruit cup with a cigarette extinguished in it. It's better than it sounds. More of the same on the finish. This is not complex nor is it packed with wonderful flavor. It is however a single malt for under $20 that provides a decent scotch experience without the grain from blends. Yes, it's rough and unrefined, but I easily finished the bottle and will sample the Speyside version hoping for improvement.

Nose: Salty water, medicinal peat, subtle pear, and a strong burnt butterscotch on a second try. Taste: Medicinal peat and briny saltwater. Finish: Brief, with a burnt, unsweetened butterscotch flavor. Overall, it's clear this scotch is very young. The flavors are weak and it has a bite, but it's certainly not dull. For the cost, it's excellent and will become a regular purchase.

Pale yellow hue. Light pear and significant peat on the nose. A bit sharp and acrid with some light peat-smoke, scorched pears, and musty oak forming the flavor. A thinner mouthfeel with more burn than anticipated for such a low alcohol content. The value is unbeatable, but I don't think I'd buy it again.

From Speyside, Scotland, this Single Malt offers balance. It begins delicately with grain and smoke, matures into a harmonious blend of grain, sea salt, peat, and campfire, and concludes with a gentle oceanic finish. July 2019 / September 2022

Peat smoke, band-aids, and cured ham on the nose. Surprisingly good! The palate is smooth and flavorful with a hint of brine and toffee. The finish is medium in length and shows its youthfulness slightly.
