This is an excellent rye. I'm not sure I've encountered a rye finished in pork barrels before, but it perfectly complements the rye. It's delicious and quite sweet, possibly containing more corn in its mash bill than other ryes. Or perhaps the port is responsible. The complexity is notable, with a viscous fullness surrounding the rye's spice, resulting in a delightful sweet and spicy equilibrium. As it airs and softens, the aroma develops herbal, grassy notes, and adding water reveals intriguing flavors, including an elusive characteristic. I can't pinpoint if it's a pot still fermentation note, apricot, orange zest, or honeysuckle. However, it persists and remains in both the flavor and aroma, which is very pleasing. I'm a big fan of this rye.
