Seagram's Extra Dry Gin

I fully anticipated disliking this gin. In my younger years, I dismissed it as a harsh vodka lacking genuine gin qualities. However, I must concede that my initial judgment was mistaken, though I grasp the reasoning behind it. The primary drawback of this gin is its watery and light mouthfeel. It lacks robust flavors, causing the juniper and alcohol burn to be more pronounced. For an inexperienced drinker consuming from a basic plastic cup, it could indeed resemble a harsh vodka. As one matures, their palate refines. While this gin doesn't offer a vast spectrum of flavors, it presents a worthwhile budget option for its cost. The aroma is predominantly orange peel, followed by a subtle, gentle juniper. Coriander and root spices are barely detectable in the background, requiring close attention. On the palate, it brings to mind an orange peel candy treat. Its citrusy bitterness is surprisingly sweet, and the juniper is present enough to identify it as a proper gin. The finish is spicy and warm, providing a pleasant burn. It's not harsh for a gin; in fact, it leans towards being forgiving. Its thin consistency almost makes it feel like sipping spiced orange tea. While I wouldn't object to drinking this gin on its own, its sweetness and citrus-forward profile make it an ideal mixer with any kind of juice. A certain artist was onto something with his appreciation for this gin. I've awarded it an extra half-star because it's quite palatable for its price.

Aroma: juniper, black pepper, lemon and lime zest, vanilla, bitter anise, celery, moderate ethanol burn. Palate: orange zest, juniper, ginger, black pepper, vanilla, floral notes, caramel, lemon, lime, sweet licorice, subtle oak, moderate alcohol bite, finishing quickly with juniper, overly sweet vanilla and caramel, and citrus flavors. I'm not a fan of this. The aroma reminds me strongly of Beefeater and Tanqueray. The palate is juniper-dominant, but an excessively sweet caramel vanilla note is quite unpleasant. I suspect this would vanish in a mixed drink, but it's rather sickly when tasted neat. Overall, this is likely the poorest gin I've sampled this week, though not significantly worse than Bombay Sapphire in my estimation.

Absolutely terrible! A true disgrace to spirits. It's outrageous that Seagram produces and sells this. The most offensively peppery taste imaginable. Utter swill. Truly awful. At $11.99 for 750 ml, it's insane not to buy New Amsterdam for $14.99 for 750 ml instead, which is a vastly superior gin. At least.

A crisp, London Dry gin made in Indiana. It's distilled from a 100% neutral grain base with botanicals including juniper, orange peel, coriander, cardamom, angelica root, and cassia bark. It was aged for several weeks in used whiskey white oak barrels before being bottled at 40% ABV. It has an aromatic beginning with notes of berries, flowers, herbs, and spices, while its crisp character leads to a fresh finish.

This classic gin offers a 5-star aroma with hints of juniper, orange peel, and coriander. It enters the palate smoothly, with juniper and orange peel being the main flavors. The finish is sweet with notes of orange, juniper, and coriander.

Abundant juniper and a pleasant vanilla oakiness from the barrel finish. For inexpensive gin, this is my usual choice. If I'm not drinking Seagrams, I'm drinking Beefeater. Pernod excels at gin.
