Sazerac Rye 18 Year (Fall 2019) is a Kentucky straight rye whiskey and one of five expressions in the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, launched annually in the fall. This batch was produced in the spring of 2001 and aged in Warehouses K & L. It is bottled at 90 proof.

Nose: Oak, vanilla, brown sugar. Black pepper, clove, cardamom. Tart cherry. Vegetal notes like dill, thyme, basil. Barnyard character. Palate: Oak, vanilla, sugar. Creamy, like cream cheese frosting. Dill, thyme, cinnamon, clove, cardamom. Bubblegum. Barnyard hay, almost like a brett beer.
The last BTAC I tried. I usually avoid rye due to spice, but this wasn't overly spicy. It lacked intensity and fullness, just sort of existed. I didn't dislike it, but I didn't love it either. I'll stick with Stagg.
A full, sweet aroma of cherries and banana bread, followed by a spicy taste with wood and cinnamon notes.
This Sazerac was a standout at the last WhiskeyFest, offering piney notes and a smooth character. It's the gin amongst ryes.
Notes of rosemary, pine, and oak are present. It has a botanical character with Italian herbs.
The 2020 is amazing. Smooth and sweet.
