Sarpa di Poli

I had no prior experience with "good" grappa, making me quite eager to sample this. My upbringing in an Italian family involved my father giving us a small amount of grappa, aiming to discourage us from drinking alcohol. That strategy was quite effective, considering what he gave us was likely better suited for fueling a car. Regardless, let's explore what Poli presents. Nose: It's undeniably grappa, yet gentle and pleasing. Quite fruity with a touch of vanilla. Palate: Luxuriously smooth and subtle. Beyond the grape skins, notes of peach and apricot emerge. Finish: Immediately transforms into a Chardonnay-like oaky white wine taste. It persists and is utterly delightful. Wow. If my father had offered this, we might have become serious grappa addicts by sixteen. Truly wonderful and has entirely reshaped my perception of this spirit category.

An intense, young Grappa from the Poli Distillery in Schiavon, Veneto, Italy, crafted from a mixture of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet pomace. It's distilled using an alembic still with 12 copper pots. It begins aromatically with notes of herbs and flowers; its bold life unfolds with garden notes of mint, rose, and geranium; culminating in a long and intense finish with hints of plum, grape, and fig. This has been my go-to grappa for over 15 years. A delightful after-dinner brandy! It's sweet, musky, and grapey with notes of pear and plum, and a slight alcohol warmth on the finish that complements the sweetness of the aroma.

This is terrible.
