Sagamore Spirit Calvados Finish Rye

A very light rye and spice on the nose, almost undetectable initially. The palate is thin and acrid before transitioning to a surprisingly pleasant rye. It's not remarkable but still moderately enjoyable. The Calvados finish is barely noticeable, except for a curious and subtly intriguing taste at the very end.

This is difficult to assess definitively. On one hand, the Calvados finish is truly excellent. On the other hand, there's a slight astringency that seems to accompany what feels like a moderately good base spirit. I do enjoy the bottle, but I won't be eager to get another one.

Typical rye notes of anise and mint give way to pleasant herbal tea and maple syrup flavors. The palate has a nice texture with brown sugar, oak, mint, and black pepper. The calvados finish complements the whiskey. It has a medium finish.

Cinnamon and cloves are followed by light vanilla and, naturally, apples. Well-executed. The Calvados finish softens the character of a youngish rye whiskey, enhancing it rather than overpowering it.

Apple, anise, baking spice, and cinnamon. The high rye spice is significantly softened by the calvados finish. If you enjoy rye, this is an outstanding whiskey.

This rye has a rich and velvety mouthfeel.
