Ry3 Cask Strength Private Reserve Rum Cask Finish

This bottling, designated for Mississippi, prominently features the rum cask on the nose, offering a sweeter complement to the robust rye. Additional notes include sunflower seeds, pear, dark chocolate, brine, sherry, char, caramel, and grass. The palate opens with considerable heat, leading into a rich sweetness. Cinnamon is the dominant flavor, accompanied by notes of chocolate, stewed apple, burnt caramel, cherry, vanilla, and rye. A hint of red licorice is detectable towards the end. A subtle rum influence might be present, but it's not definitive. The finish is long, intense, peppery, and spicy, again dominated by cinnamon, with a peppery and slightly piney aftertaste. A fine spirit, but not suitable for introducing novices to rye whiskey or for those who prefer milder drinks.

Tried it neat, a suggestion from a friend. It has a sweet aroma with hints of caramel, almonds, and brown sugar. The taste is quite fiery, as anticipated, with notes of honey, brown sugar, and vanilla.

Received a free sample at the store. In retrospect, the price was excessive. I appreciate a quality rye, but this one fell short. The finish is particularly harsh.

Batch 3, bottle 188, 62.1% Herbal aroma Willett style foundation, honey, peppery, more herbs. Marzipan and dill. Spicy finish. Slightly sweet, not dry.

Begins smoothly, then quickly becomes spicy. It has a strange aftertaste. I'm not a big admirer.

A powerful initial impact, followed by excellent flavors throughout. A classic rye expression.
