About this bottle

Rhum J.M. Blanc is crafted from estate-grown sugarcane harvested after a full year of growth each spring. Within an hour of picking, the sugarcane juice is fresh-pressed and undergoes a natural fermentation for 36-48 hours. The fermented juice is then distilled in a Créole copper column still to 70% ABV and rested for a minimum of three months in stainless steel tanks. Finally, it is reduced to bottle strength with mineral-rich volcanic water from the estate. This 110 proof version, sold in liter bottles, was released in July 2019.

Brennan Skidmore 2.5

The aroma is grassy and vegetal with a squash-like sweetness, surprisingly potent and sharp. The flavor is also grassy, sweet, and vegetal, with notes of squash and brown sugar mixed with an unpleasant breadiness. It strongly resembles grappa. The alcohol burn is present but not excessive, and while there's some alcohol bitterness, it's well-managed. If you appreciate these flavors, the balance is good, with the bitterness present but controlled. Hints of citrus are subtle and well-integrated. It's very interesting but not to my personal taste. It has a distinct funky character and an intriguing sugary water flavor, confirming its rhum agricole identity. There's a peculiar red bell pepper note that is somewhat interesting. The texture is slightly oily, but not overly so.
