The aroma is the classic sugary grass of an agricole blanc, with a sharp quality, possibly lime. The taste offers only a hint of sugarcane sweetness before a rapid hit of tart lime, then it fades into a warm finish. Apparently, connoisseurs favor this over Clement and La Favorite, but to an average palate, they seem quite similar. Comparing it directly with La Favorite, I noticed this one's taste and aroma are 'sharper,' with more of that tart lime compared to La Favorite's 'smoother,' banana-like aroma. My memory is that I preferred the Clement Canne Bleue to both, but it's been a few months since I finished it, so I'd need to re-evaluate. Overall, this performs as expected for an agricole blanc. I find it a bit harsher to sip neat than others I've sampled, but it's still good, just different. And naturally, it's perfect for a ti punch. At $32 per bottle, it offers good value.

About this bottle
Rhum J.M. Blanc is made from sugarcane grown on the estate, harvested in the spring after a full year of growth. Within an hour of harvesting, the fresh-pressed sugarcane juice undergoes a natural fermentation lasting 36-48 hours. The fermented juice is distilled to 70% ABV in a Créole copper column still. The rum then rests for at least three months in stainless steel tanks before being diluted to bottle-strength with mineral-rich water from the estate's volcanic springs.

First experience with rhum agricole. Remarkable. This spirit is completely outside my usual rum experience. While some of this is due to its lack of age, the dominant factor is the fresh-pressed cane character. I find it more comparable to sotol than traditional aged or sweeter rums. It presents as mineral, metallic, grassy, salty, dry, and zesty, causing slight puckering and leaving a black pepper tingle. Notes of lemongrass, bell pepper, and cooked carrots are present. I can almost detect the essence of the copper stills and stainless steel tanks. Unabashedly vegetal, yet captivating and delightful. It compels another sip. I am far more impressed with this than I anticipated. It evokes a sense of an authentic, original product, preceding the use of E150 and additives. I intend to re-evaluate sotol to see if my palate has developed a greater appreciation for it. I am also eager to try this in cocktails, though it is drinkable on its own for the daring.
Amazing. Just amazing. My initial experience with agricole and it's a revelation. Without any prior knowledge of other rhum agricoles, I can only say that the vegetal, funky, and utterly unique flavors, so unlike Spanish or English-style rums, have captured my interest and keep me returning. Add some to a daiquiri or mai tai, and you'll never go back! A traditional Ti’ Punch was also delicious. Highly recommended.
100 proof. Notes of sugarcane, butter, fried banana, and toasted vanilla ice cream, with hints of coconut and nuts.
