Rating: 14/23 Nose: Burnt sugar, lemon, and some ethanol. Faint vegetal notes add a subtle funk, reminiscent of Pusser's, but only slightly. Palate: Sweet vanilla and caramel, tannic wood, lemon, and some herbs that become dank with a Pusser's funk. White pepper is also present, along with a bit of harshness and a smoky bitter layer. There's a slightly oily texture with the smoke. Finish: Wood with tannins and funky vegetal esters. The smokiness gradually increases, maintaining a light oiliness. Conclusion: This is not Foursquare Détente, but it is quite good. However, the tannins feel a bit too strong, especially combined with the oily quality. I'm considering a rating from 13 to 15, likely a 13. I appreciate the complexity, but the tannins clash with the smoke and lemon in a way that is off-putting. It lacks the pleasant sandalwood vanilla of Frigate Reserve 15 (15/23) and comes across as thinner and more aggressive, though less sweet. Panama Pacific 15 (15/23) also has a mellow quality similar to Frigate Reserve 15. It offers more complexity but shares some of the less desirable notes. A 15 rating seems unlikely for Panama Pacific as well. Plantation Xaymaca (14/23) is a comparable option. Pusser's Gunpowder Proof (15/23) is definitely superior. A rating of 14 seems appropriate here. Throughout this tasting, I wavered between enjoying the funk and finding it made the rum taste young and somewhat harsh. Many people will likely enjoy this, but it's not for me. As a final check, I compared it to Elijah Craig Small Batch to ensure my palate wasn't skewed by overly sweet rums. This tasting confirmed that this rum is not very sweet and my palate was accurate. Thanks for sharing this!

Nose - molasses, butterscotch, hay, nutmeg, mint, dark chocolate, sweet dough, cashew butter, dusty corn, baked apple, floral notes, toasted coconut, banana, with a mild to moderate ethanol burn. Taste - baked apple, orange zest, mint, walnut, dark chocolate, molasses, toffee, clove, nutmeg, vanilla, coffee, sweet floral notes, banana milkshake, black pepper, creamed corn, cherry, with a moderate alcohol bite, finishing medium length with molasses, dark chocolate, baking spice, and toffee flavors. The aroma is deep and rich, offering some very pleasant dark notes. Molasses, chocolate, toasted coconut, and macerated bananas can be detected. The palate is similar, with a sweet corn characteristic alongside the other dessert-like flavors. The finish isn't outstanding, but it's sufficiently long and doesn't turn sour or bitter like other examples in this category I've encountered. This is the final one of my rhum agricoles, and it's certainly superior to the others I've had. The corn notes are surprisingly prominent, especially considering there's no corn component. It actually smells more like an aged corn whiskey than a rum, quite similar to a distillate from Ironroot Republic. When I first opened this bottle a year ago, I thought it was below average. That's no longer the case. I'm unsure if my palate has evolved or if oxidation has had a significant effect. Regardless, this is a quality rum that I'll happily drink.
The aroma features abundant burnt caramel and toasted marshmallows with a subtle grassy quality. It has a light mouthfeel. The palate presents burnt sugar, raw sugarcane juice, vanilla extract, a sweet vegetal note reminiscent of sweet peas, black tea, espresso, and a faint hint of fresh coconut water. The finish is short to medium in length and dry. The oak is very prominent on the finish; burnt sugar is still present but not the main focus. All the sweetness is upfront, and it finishes dry and oaky, so it doesn't come across as overly sweet.
A rum packed with flavor! Appreciating the 43% ABV. It's very full-bodied with sweet vanilla dessert notes, abundant woody spices, cinnamon, sandalwood, clove, and mace. Adding water enhances the flavors, as it's a bit muted otherwise. It's sweet but not excessively so, and not cloying. A wonderful choice for sipping on a warm day.
This is my first cane rum. After 15 years aging, it's very similar to a molasses rum until the finish, when grassy notes emerge. It has very little funk. While not the most exciting Haitian rum or anything like Clairins, it's one of my preferred readily available rums.
A quality spirit at an attractive price. A smooth 15-year Rhum from Haiti with notes of tobacco, grassy character, and a hint of fresh mint. These characteristics are less pronounced compared to Clement Agricole XO, but this is expected for a 15-year-old spirit. The flavors are somewhat muted.
