Having enjoyed Redwood Empire's other Rye, Emerald Giant, I was eager to sample this one. I found the 2019 vintage locally and decided to purchase it. I'm pleased with my decision. This is an outstanding rye, and its four-grain composition adds a unique element. On the nose, there's a sweet, somewhat unusual herbal funkiness. The flavor was a pleasant surprise. There's a noticeable, though minimal, spice that doesn't overpower the sweetness. The taste is primarily sweet and agreeable, with hints of honey, butterscotch, and a touch of cinnamon. At 100 proof, it's exceptionally smooth, with no detectable heat or harshness. If you're a fan of bourbon, I believe you'll quite enjoy this rye. I paid $80 in the New England area for this bottle, and while I loved it, I had to deduct some points due to the price – it strikes me as a bit too costly. If it were $10-$20 less expensive, I would consistently include it in my regular selection. That being said, I will definitely purchase it again for special occasions or when I want to indulge myself.
