Ragged Branch Bottled in Bond Virginia Straight Rye

Nose: Initial impressions are of baking spice and alcohol, giving a slightly medicinal quality. Citrus and herbal notes appear, offering a wide array of aromas. The flavors mirror the nose, creating a hearty and delicious dram that fits well within the Ragged Brach family. The body is light, and the finish is mostly long, with a pleasant burnt treacle aftertaste. Adding water enhances the citrus on the nose, revealing a shy and soft butter note. However, water doesn't improve the flavor, resulting in a rather unappealing one-dimensionality. This one is best enjoyed neat.

Tasted neat with added water. A slightly syrupy texture in the mouth. Flavors of sweet, spicy rye and bread are present. The bottle mentions a "hint of candy corn," which I agree with (in a positive way). An excellent rye whiskey!
