Miranda Kirby 3.3

(Good Spirits Co. Glasgow – Virtual 10th Birthday Whisky Tasting, June 4th, 2021). £20 for a 20cl bottle Nose: Chocolate, rum, banana, sweet raisins and sultanas Palate: Sherry, cherries/plums, citrus, orange zest Finish: Medium finish, leather, oak, dry sherry, tobacco GSC markets this as a cocktail, but it is essentially a Solera style whisky (living cask) with occasional additions of a sweet wine or sherry to comply with Scottish licensing regulations! There are many layers to this – you can truly taste its ‘mongrel’ character! This current batch is primarily (3/5) Linkwood 11y/o, with a small amount of sweet wine added to the remaining 2/5 of the Solera that was in the barrel. This is a tasty Solera cocktail/whisky. Before the recent addition of the Linkwood 11y/o, the barrel had also contained: Teaninich 10y/o 2009 Arran 2010 Teaspoon Balvenie Burnside Tullibardine Strathmill 1990 Glen Ord Bunnahabhain 27y/o …meaning some rather excellent drams went into this Solera! It placed fifth out of the six drams, receiving 4% (2 votes) of the final vote for favorite of the night. 81% (38 votes) of those present indicated they enjoyed the whisky.
