I'm quite underwhelmed by this whiskey. While I adore heavily peated Islay whiskies like Laphroaig, Ardbeg, and Lagavulin, this spirit doesn't make my regular rotation. It's very young and intensely fiery, with no softening even when diluted with water. In my view, it's essentially raw alcohol with a significant amount of peat and spice, but it lacks the balance needed for enjoyment.

About this bottle
This bottling is a blend of various vintages and possesses a higher peat level than their Heavily Peated expression (44 ppm versus 40 ppm). The abundance of baking spices is balanced by the smoke and peat, showcasing the skill of Master Blender Jim McEwan. The selected casks effectively balance floral notes within this heavily peated whisky.

The aroma includes smoked meats, sandalwood, mango, apricot, and a strange shoe polish scent. The taste is fantastic, featuring BBQ meats, smoke, brine, cinnamon, ginger, charred cedar, coal, pine sap, and a peppery finish that lingers!
A lot of smoke, yet the other, more delicate aromatic tastes are not overwhelmed. It's very well-balanced while still being smoky and peaty. I approve!
I had been wanting this bottle for ages because of its intensely peated character and it certainly met my expectations. If you appreciate Kilchoman, you will likely adore this one too.
Very pleasant aroma, with a palate that is peaty and floral. The finish dissipates very quickly, with a slight hint of tobacco.
Smoky! It's comparable to Ardbeg Uigeadial, perhaps with a touch less smoke behind it.
