Nose - Sweet peat, sweet milky funk, sea spray, burnt sugary/syrupy green grapes, syrupy poached pears (with water) Mostly the same, but with more salt and slightly less syrupy sweetness Taste - Black pepper, clean salty smoke, sweet syrupy green grapes, sweet triple cream brie (with water) Same but much less milky/sweet cream "funk", slightly less sweet Finish - Light lingering tingle, sea spray, smoke, ashy syrupy green grapes (with water) Same Score - 87/100 Final Thoughts - This one was good, but felt a bit one-note. Nothing unpleasant, just a little too sweet, and adding water reduces the sweetness but also disrupts the balance. It has a good amount of Bruichladdich's milky / sweet soft cheese funk that pairs well with the sea salt notes. It reminds me of creamy smoked brie with a bit too much sweet grape/pear chutney added. It's good, but a little uninspired and slightly off-kilter. About this bottle
Port Charlotte SC:01 2012 is the fifth bottling in the brand's Cask Exploration Series. Notably, this is the first time within this series that 100% Islay-grown barley has been utilized, specifically Concerto, Propino, Publican, and Oxbridge varieties harvested in 2011 from seven Islay farms. The barley was malted to 40 ppm in mainland Scotland before being returned to Bruichladdich for distillation. The whisky aged in a mix of sherry butts and first and second-fill American whiskey barrels, then was transferred into ex-Sauternes wine casks at various stages of maturation. It is bottled at 55.2% ABV without added color or chill-filtration. (SRP $144.99)

Initially, expect sea salt caramel, oak, damp hay, notes of vanilla, leather, and white pepper. This then develops into heavier oak, dried fruit, hints of apricot, and a wave of peat. The finish presents a lighter fruit impression, peat, and mild brine. It's a lengthy and robust finish with minimal ethanol burn. A fantastic Islay, reminiscent of a certain Ardbeg expression but with greater depth.
Aroma: Roasted barley, lemon, smoke Flavor: Citrus, honey, oak Aftertaste: Smoke, sweet cinnamon, orange peel, brown sugar Sweet, smoky, and citrusy. Truly enjoyable. 8/10
On the nose: peat, oak, floral, and citrus with vanilla. The palate features ginger at the forefront, transitioning to smoky notes with citrus in the background. The finish is sweet and smoky, with lingering bitter tobacco.
