Planteray Original Dark Overproof, at 73% ABV, is a more potent version of the 40% ABV Planteray Original Dark. Both rums are sourced from Angostura in Trinidad and are a mix of younger spirits with a small amount of eight-year-old rum for added complexity. They are aged in heavily charred ex-bourbon casks, then finished in Cognac casks in France. This review pertains to the initial Trinidad-only release. In mid-2015, Plantation announced that future bottlings would combine Trinidadian and Jamaican rums.

With a straw color, it appears quite light to the eye. The nose first offers fruits along with the potency of the alcohol. The mouth is powerful yet complex with notes of prune and wood. It has a beautiful, all-encompassing length on the palate. A fine accomplishment.
Wow! What an intense spirit! It's a spicy, tangy, potent rum! The French oak Cognac and bourbon cask influences are very prominent, creating an incredible blend! The rum's flavors are unlike anything I've experienced before. I found it too overpowering, but my boyfriend loved it!!
Incredibly potent! It has a decent flavor considering the high alcohol content, but this is primarily for adding a powerful kick to rum cocktails. Unfortunately, it seems this is no longer available – a full liter of this powerful spirit cost me about $23.
In my opinion, the smoothest 151 proof available. It won't overwhelm your guests' palates. It's positioned well in a certain rum category. An excellent component for mixing and as a drink finisher.
This is an excellent overproof rum. It's rich, packed with flavor, and strong; I wouldn't sip it, but it seems ideal for cocktails.
