English Harbour 5 Year Rum

The bouquet is sweet and fruity, with a moderate ether that causes the nose hairs to stand on end. There are notes of caramel and milk chocolate, ripe banana, slightly overripe pineapple, a hint of coconut cream, plus a touch of allspice and cavendish. The palate is very sweet with a good amount of spice. Demerara sugar is prominent, followed quickly by red pepper, a bit of suede, baking spices, and a mix of dried tropical fruit. It has good body, with slow, thin legs that drip like melted candle wax from a rim of small, uniform teardrops. The mouthfeel is full and velvety. The finish features vanilla cola, a little more suede, a hint of citrus peel, and slightly bitter oak. Aroma: 8 Taste: 8 Body: 9 Finish: 8

Aroma after resting a few minutes: banana and pineapple tangerine notes, nutmeg spice, coconut, raisin, brown sugar, buttery almonds. Taste: starts with some brown sugar, fruitiness with a bright citrus note, moves to quick caramel, then vanilla, then buttery vanilla, then butter. A hint of spice, banana, nuts, brown sugar, nutmeg, and clove spice on the finish. The finish is moderately short but good.

It tastes average for a semi-aged spirit. There's no dominant flavor. It's better than white rum but not nearly as good as dark rum. I purchased a 50ml bottle in Jamaica for $4.

Consumed a bottle each night. Shared with my wife in Antigua over the course of a week. Simply excellent rum from the Caribbean. 🇦🇬

Enjoyed it at first on the rocks, but the flavor changed significantly. Prefer it neat.

Very pleasant, fruity, with a rougher start but a smooth finish.
