Penny Blue XO is a single estate rum originating from the island nation of Mauritius. It is distilled in small batches using molasses from sugar cane grown on the Medine Estate. This rum is issued in unique batches of approximately 10,000 bottles, with batch #004 being the current release. Each batch has been aged in a blend of ex-cognac, ex-bourbon, or whisky casks. This non-chill-filtered rum contains no added colors or sugar.

Batch 008 Nose: Features dried fruits and spices. Palate: Presents dried fruits, spices, a touch of tropical fruit, oak, and a hint of toffee. Finish: Is lengthy, with a mild fruity and spicy character. It is not overly drying nor excessively sweet. Highly craveable. This is excellent. I am curious about the cask composition and average age. Score: 8/10
This barely passes as rum, which is a positive in this instance. Imagine a very smooth single malt with a sugary finish. This might be absolute perfection.
