Nose: Demerara sugar, maple syrup, vanilla, honey, oak cask, grilled pineapple, mango, peach, coconut, crushed sugar cane. It possesses a sweet aroma, but it's not overwhelming. Palate: Sweet, fruity, grassy, and herbal upon arrival. It initially presents as very agricole-like, but midway through, it shifts to a molasses sweetness with tropical fruits, crème caramel, and a touch of spice and vanilla. It's an intriguing and skillfully balanced blend. Finish: Brief. Sweet, with a hint of white pepper and warm spices, fading quickly into white sugar. This is a pleasant, very relaxed, and sensual rum, featuring a character that combines agricole hogo and crisp cane sugars with rich tropical fruits and dark syrup. Overall, I'd describe its profile as "languid." It's luxurious like an excessively dosed Venezuelan rum but without the overwhelming sweetness, and the edge of its clean agricole aspect adds interest. I'm enjoying this in various ways – neat, on the rocks with an orange or lime slice, in piña coladas, and with dry ginger ale. It hovers near the line of being overly sweet but doesn't quite cross it. Each time I taste this, I picture myself relaxing in a hammock by a turquoise sea. These are pleasant daydreams. A harmonious Dark Rum from Arcane Distillery in Mauritius, Africa. It begins as a traditional rum crafted from molasses, enhanced by a touch of Rhum Agricole derived from fresh sugar cane juice, and concludes with aging in ex-Cognac barrels. It presents a delicate initial profile with notes of honey, caramel, spice, vanilla, and butterscotch. The rich and spicy development adds flavors of toffee, raisins, honey, and caramel. It culminates in a long and tropical finish featuring mocha coffee, smoky, ginger, and floral notes. October 2019 / May / August 2020
Rum from Mauritius. Sweetness reminiscent of maple syrup, pineapple juice, and molasses. Very drinkable, goes down easily.
Sharp at first, then quite herbal and mellow.
