Peerless Double Oak Rye

The aroma is rich with vanilla, caramel, charred coffee and toasted pipe tobacco. The taste hits with a buttery and oily mouthfeel. Pepper and cinnamon start a journey that moves into other baking spices, toffee and a bit of a bitterness on the sides of the tongue. The finish lasts forever with tannins, tobacco and burnt sugar. Its a potent, in your face rye thats loads of fun to experience As this bottle has aged and opened up, the aroma has gained a sweet vanilla shortbread quality and the taste has a minced meat pie flavor of stewed raisins. Gets better with age!

Batch 6 Aroma - Sweet brown sugar, candied fruits, toasted marshmallow, rye spice (pepper). Palate - All elements from the nose transfer to the mouth and more. Everything is amplified. Rich sweet notes (again brown sugar, candied fruits) mixed with rye notes (pepper, hint of mint). The oak presence is prominent on the finish along with vanilla notes. A touch of rye spice on the finish as well. Overall - Very complex and a very long finish. The price seems reasonable.

Received a sample from a friend. Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Deep amber. Aroma: Dark fruits and some minty notes. Taste: Thick texture with cinnamon and baking spice. Finish: Long and very warm. Splash: A noticeable minty aroma emerges. Overall: 9.5/10 - This is an excellent rye. It has all the classic characteristics and would hold up well with ice or in a mixer. A serious contender for my favorite rye ever.

Aroma - deep, rich aroma, my first thought is coffee bean. Vanilla extract and a strong oak influence. Taste - brown sugar sweetness combined with dark chocolate bitterness. Barrel char with tannins. Long finish, but a bit on the bitter side. A tasty DO rye, slightly held back by some bitter tannin flavors. Nevertheless, a top-tier rye!

I don't understand the excitement, especially given the price. For over $115 plus tax, I anticipated being amazed. It's good, but not mind-blowing. As others have mentioned, I might need to try the Sagamore Double Rye for comparison, because if it's only $55, I could accept that; I definitely won't pay that much again for a mediocre to good bottle.

Opened the bottle to celebrate a child's first Father's Day. Amazing stuff. Beautiful amber color, fantastic aroma, viscous mouthfeel and wonderfully flavorful. Nice warming finish closes things out. Absolutely one of the best whiskeys I’ve tried. I’ll be picking this one up every chance I get! Purchased 3/29/23
