About this bottle

Maison Paul Beau has been producing cognac under its family name without interruption since 1977, with earlier, intermittent production for other houses beginning in 1895. Their Hors d'Âge expression is made from the ugni blanc grape grown on their estate in Segonzac, within the Grande Champagne region. Master Distiller Olivier Laurichesse creates their cognacs without any additives. The wines are clarified by removing the lees (spent yeast cells post-fermentation) to achieve a clean profile.

Karla Hooker 2.5

Nose: Sweet, with abundant effervescent fruits – pear, raspberry, blueberry, and a light floral character. Quite vibrant on the nose for something supposedly this aged. Palate: Thin mouthfeel but no burn. Tastes of apples, candied fruit, and nuts. Bright and spirit-forward. Faint pipe tobacco, a little caramel. Not exceptionally complex. Finish: Long, with significant molasses, brown sugar, toffee, and sweet cream notes. Almost a root beer characteristic. It's intriguing how this evolves. Overall: This is rather unusual – and without the finish, it would be easy to dismiss. However, the nose and palate are light, not particularly intricate or engaging, then the finish emerges to add more depth. Still, I can't imagine why I would choose this over numerous other available options. Thank you for reading! Rating: 5

Aroma of wood, vanilla, nuts, grapes, plum, toffee, and rancio. Lightly sweet on the palate with notes of caramel, toffee, wood, rancio, and plum.

Lorna Higgs 4.0

It won't overwhelm you, but it's incredibly smooth with a thick, oily mouthfeel and hints of almonds and citrus.
