A blend of rums from the Caribbean, the US, and Central America, produced using both column and pot stills, makes up this bottling. The rums underwent solera aging in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, port wine, and sherry casks before a final aging period in ex-bourbon barrels. While a prior version of this bottling existed at a lower proof, this edition is bottled at 95 proof. Named to honor Ernest "Papa" Hemingway, Papa's Pilar was developed with his estate, and a portion of its profits support charitable causes. This limited edition of Papa's Pilar Bourbon Barrel Finished Dark Rum 95 Proof has 2000 cases available starting in October 2018.

I'm exploring rum as a bourbon enthusiast. This spirit has attractive viscosity and a full mouthfeel. I detect significant spice, woody molasses, but also excessive woodiness and sweetness. It ranks lower than other rums I've purchased, including El Dorado 15, Kirk & Sweeney 23, and my current favorite sipping rum, Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva.
As someone who typically prefers bourbon and has for over three decades, I find this rum to be exceptional. It strikes a perfect harmony between sweetness, spice, and oak. The mouthfeel is highly satisfying, leading into a medium-to-long finish. It's delightful in every regard! Cheers.
A solid drink. This was from a single barrel. This expression nicely blends bourbon and rum. You get dark molasses and a bit of funk. The finish is fine, though I hoped for a bit more considering the proof.
Maple Syrup, Caramel, Butterscotch, like Sunday morning Pancakes. Smooth and creamy mouth feel. Drink neat only. I went back and bought 2 more. Also got a store barrel pick at 110 proof from a friend.
This single barrel beverage, 86 proof, is quite tasty. Though new to rum, I found it sweet with notes of cinnamon, vanilla, brown sugar, and oak. A pleasant drink.
I was pleasantly surprised by this rum. Lots of butter, butterscotch, and caramel with a good amount of overly ripe banana. A nice, unexpected funky finish with hogo notes!
