A friend shared the last bit of this bottle with me when I visited to discuss a fundraiser. It got a poor reputation initially, but I believe that’s because less resilient folks are intimidated by the strength or cost (both significant). This includes a severe critique from the only prior comment. The initial scent is potent barrel with a trace of sweet red wine among discarded items. The flavor confirms the first impression. Robust wheat spirit combines with aged sherry cask. Without this being offered at full strength, I couldn't appreciate it as much. However, at 102 proof, this is a quality item to keep on hand, and the future releases will only improve with age.

The Oloroso cask imparts a pleasant quality, but sadly, this whiskey hasn't matured enough to truly impress. It's very spirit-forward and, apart from the sherry influence, quite plain. The nose shows wheat, a bit of char, red fruit, and a burning sensation, all masked by a layer of acetone. It would benefit significantly from an additional two years of aging.
Very smooth with a clean but brief finish. Hints of dark chocolate. The aroma is mahogany.
Among the best whiskeys available, a top 10 wheat whiskey.
