A few weeks ago, four of us traveled to Maysville for dinner. The restaurant was situated next to the Amtrak station on Rosemary Clooney Drive. It was a lovely setting under a tent with river views. As we entered town, I observed signs directing to the Pogue distillery, Kentucky's third officially registered distillery. Attempting to be witty at the bistro, I requested the waitress to serve the local bourbon. She inquired if I preferred the well-known brand or the local brew named after the town, made by the major distiller. I'm all for the local option. I was quite impressed and realized further tasting was necessary. Let's ensure the local atmosphere and the excellent dinner don't influence the whiskey memory. Finding a bottle of Old Maysville Club was challenging, but it is as I recall. The citrus and barrel fragrances emerge strongly from the glass. Flavors are more subtle with spicy citrus and oak, but there's a hint of mint and vanilla present. Do I detect a touch of green apple on that dry finish? The 100 proof is not apparent as there is minimal heat. It's slightly oily and well-balanced. I truly enjoy this rye. I'm uncertain if I've ever had a 100% rye mashbill before. As someone who prefers bourbon, I really like this. It's refreshingly different and possibly the best rye I've tasted, but I still identify as a bourbon enthusiast.

A truly satisfying bottle. The aroma features citrus notes. A subtle mint undertone is present at the finish but isn't overpowering. It's remarkably gentle for a 100 proof, 100% rye mashbill. Now, I must conserve my single bottle until my next visit to Maysville next year!
This is a must-try for experienced whiskey enthusiasts. The 100% malted rye demonstrates exceptional quality from the initial aroma to the final taste. Its flavor profile is highly distinctive. I won't elaborate further; discover it for yourself with a tasting.
The rye sweetness is noticeable on the nose, along with a subtle, unusual play-dough aroma. The taste is full-flavored and sweet, with a rye kick on the finish. Very little spice for a high-proof rye.
I generally prefer bourbon and scotch. I've had several rye whiskeys in the past and wasn't impressed. However, this rye whiskey is the best! I will keep it in my collection.
The malted rye is very unique! Will add to my collection and a pleasant rye!
