A peculiar smell. Uncertain if it's good or bad. It has a grape-like quality, but not overly sugary. It evokes a grappa made from grape stems and skins for some reason. A hint of vanilla and subtle maple are also present. Taste: This is far more pleasant than the aroma. Initially, it's quite mellow with prominent vanilla. Then, gentle pepper and cinnamon appear but aren't overwhelming. The maltiness from the 49% malted barley is noticeable, offering notes of freshly cut grass and dried apricots. Finish: Moderate. The black pepper persists along with some chewy leather notes. Overall, this is a noteworthy whisky. Quite good for the cost, and I'm glad I bought a bottle.
