About this bottle

This Oban bottling is part of Diageo's yearly limited Distillers Edition series, which spotlights single malt Scotch whisky distilleries under its ownership. Every bottling undergoes a secondary maturation period in a specific cask type. For this Oban expression, the casks chosen are Montilla fino fortified wine casks. It was distilled in 2001 and bottled in 2016 at 86 proof.

I'm currently down to just one or two drinks weekly, and it might have even been a couple of weeks since my last one, so this tasted wonderful. I looked up Montilla Fino and found it's a dry sherry from a small region/town called Montilla. I haven't tasted a lot of Oban – this is my third, following the 14 and Little Bay – but I'd say it's my favorite so far. Butterscotch, honeyed sherry, perfectly sweet, and well-balanced. I give it a 4.
