Oak and Grist Single Malt Whiskey

A blend of two 3-year-old barrels and one 5-year-old barrel On the nose: butterscotch, vanilla, a hint of red fruit, some light maltiness, and citrus On the palate: butterscotch, vanilla, some oakiness, citrus, baking spices, mild maltiness, and light leather. Quite zesty Finish: More vanilla, more maltiness (in a pleasant way) and leather with a hint of smokiness. With water: Increased citrus and oak on the nose. The palate becomes smoother and sweeter, with a red berry fruit flavor emerging, and more maltiness on the finish. Overall: An impressive tribute to the Speyside style that I doubt would have made me think North Carolina if I tasted it blind. Don't be deterred by the 3-year age statement - there's a touch of youthful malt flavor, but it's well-integrated into a tasty and complex single malt. This combination of 3 and 5-year barrels is certainly mature for its age due to the North Carolina climate, and definitely worth trying.

Light and sweet. Though it's double distilled, the flavor is quite similar to Irish whiskey. Delightful.

Has a grainy character. It's light and floral.
