Noy Classic 10 Year

After sampling several Armenian brandies from Ararat, I explored Noy. In general, I don't find this as captivating as Ararat, though it's pleasant enough. The aroma is mostly a straightforward grape spirit with an acidic, almost vinegar-like note. If I linger, I catch hints of richer elements like spice cake and plums, but they aren't very prominent. Overall, the scent isn't particularly strong. The palate offers more grape with a slightly wine-like tannic quality. There's some oak and a general fruitiness reminiscent of Concord grape jelly. This might sound negative, but it's not; it's simply unpretentiously basic, like a well-cooked hamburger without any special seasoning. I enjoy it more when I'm not focusing on it too intently. I can just sip it while reading and think, yes, that was nice. My preference leans towards richer, spicier notes in brandy, whereas this leans towards the sharper, more astringent side. It's still quite enjoyable, though. One unrelated observation: the bottle looks attractive but is somewhat clumsy to pour from. At $28, it offers decent value. I likely won't repurchase it but wouldn't dismiss Noy in the future.
