Since 1887, Yerevan Brandy Factory has produced brandy under the ARARAT name. This brandy, distilled from grapes, has matured in oak barrels for at least five years. It is reduced with local spring water and bottled at 40% ABV.

An excellent brandy that was favored by a certain historical figure. It's full-bodied with tastes of brown sugar and various dried fruits. It has a thick texture that coats your throat. This costs $28 in Utah. I have spent two to three times that amount on cognacs and armagnacs that I did not find nearly as enjoyable. I am keen to sample the other aged Ararat expressions.
Ararat 5 year (5 star), distilled and bottled in Armenia. The bottle is 700 ml, unlike the 750 ml bottles sold in the US. ABV: 40%. Aroma: Sweet/fruity with white grape notes. Taste: Fruity with notes of figs, grapes, sweetness, and slight oak. It has a lighter body than older expressions and a semi-smooth character with a bit of a kick. Grade: B-
79 Nose: Dates, raisins, barrel sweetness 22 Taste: Fruity and barrel-forward, raisins, slightly sweet, full-bodied, with a bit of alcohol coming through 19 Finish: Short to medium length, raisins, alcohol 19 Body: Flavor-wise it's balanced and enjoyable to drink, but the aggressive alcohol detracts from drinkability and becomes unpleasant after a while 19
The 7-year expression. On the nose: dates, raisins, and spiced baking nougat. Tastes like raisin cake with a slightly burnt crust. Contains mild wood tannins. Initial sweetness is high. Medium-low body. Short finish.
A very nice cognac, offering great value for the money, but investing in the 7 year-old Ararat is absolutely worthwhile!
Nose features raisins, acetone, and white boxed cake. Tastes cake-like with raisins and rose syrup.
