North of 7 Rye Mashbill Single Barrel

From one of my local distilleries in Ottawa. They are reputed to be among the best. This bottle is a sample received after purchasing a bottle each of their 3 grain rye and overproof rum. The aroma is quite spectacular. Classic Canadian characteristics amplified intensely. Maple, oak, and the spiciest of ryes. Unfortunately, the taste is somewhat underwhelming. It's spicy and oaky, but not balanced, leaning more towards sour than sweet. The finish is long and things improve again. Honestly, it's a bit disappointing (perhaps my expectations were too high), but I'm still eager to try the other two full bottles.
