About this bottle

Slipknot No. 9 Reserve Iowa Whiskey is the result of a partnership between the Grammy-winning metal band Slipknot and Cedar Ridge Distillery of Iowa. This whiskey is a combination of straight bourbon and straight rye, both distilled by Cedar Ridge using corn from its own farm in Winthrop. The components were aged for a minimum of four years. Shawn "Clown" Crahan, the band's percussionist, curated the blend, which is named after the nine members of the group. It is bottled at 99 proof and has been available across the United States since August 2019.

My initial taste from the bottle was quite pleasant, with some spices and marshmallow notes. However, after pouring a glass, I detected an odd artificial plastic and cherry cough syrup flavor. I believe others have identified this as a specific spice that doesn't suit my palate. I had hoped to enjoy this, as I truly liked the regular No9, but it's not working for me at all so far. They are quite distinct, so if you disliked No9, it doesn't automatically mean you'll dislike No9 Reserve.

This is not what I anticipated after having the regular batch Iowa 9, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Nose - understated, sweet, smoky Taste - the smoke is immediate and intense, followed by strong cloves and black cherry. Faint allspice and a light, oily texture Finish - smooth, with no burn due to the low proof. I'm detecting a cherry Dr Pepper on the finish. Overall, it’s a bit too smoky for my preference. I wish it had been bottled at a higher proof. Honestly, I prefer the small batch version.

Reminds me of banana bread. Plenty of subtle clove and a pleasant, refined light spice on the nose and palate, yet a very full flavor throughout, and incredibly easy to keep drinking. Quite impressed with the outcome of this whiskey. Cedar Ridge and slip knot did a great job!

Nose: Oak, cinnamon, baking spices Palate: Cornbread, apple pie, wonderful texture, caramel Finish: Baking chocolate, subtle banana dessert

Fiona Sousa 4.0

Light, with more pronounced dry oak, rye and dill spice, and some of the character of a single malt. Lingering finish. Pine, brown sugar, and more single malt notes on the finish.

Oscar Dinh 3.5

This whiskey has notes of corn sweetness, chocolate, and cedar. The finish has hints of cherry and a slight nuttiness. It's smooth.
