Clear and golden in the glass, showing long legs. The nose is distinctive and more captivating than anticipated. Notes of sweet creamed corn, toasted corn/tortilla/masa with nutty undertones, sour mash, hints of minerality, honey, and butter. It has a substantial mouthfeel. The palate is exceptionally smooth and sweet, featuring lighter sugars like corn syrup (unsurprisingly), cane sugar, and mild honey. Masa flour is another prominent flavor, alongside tangy stone fruit, possibly plum. The finish is sweet and slightly tart, gradually mellowing into a long-lasting yet subtle nutty masa. I don't think drinking it neat is ideal; it might be better enjoyed over ice or as an intriguing component in cocktails to impart a sweet, earthy character. Definitely worth holding onto for reasons beyond the bottle itself, which is quite the talking point.

About this bottle
Nixta is promoted as the world's first corn liqueur. It is produced by the same team responsible for Abasolo, a Mexican whisky derived from ancestral corn, at Destilería y Bodega Abasolo in Jilotepec de Abasolo. Nixta incorporates the ancestral nixtamalization process to extract flavor from its base of 100% non-GMO Cacahuazintle maíz. The liqueur is bottled at 30% ABV.

A delightful liqueur. It tastes like a sweet tortilla chip, buttery, with hints of caramel. It does feel oily, but that might just be from the added sugars, similar to the thickness of simple syrup. I had this after trying the same brand's whiskey, Abasolo. It strikes me as if this is merely a sweetened version of that whiskey. Whether that's true or not, I still appreciate this liqueur. I made a margarita, substituting this for Cointreau, and really enjoyed it! I'd definitely pair it with a tequila or mezcal that has earthy or vegetal qualities.
A Mexican corn spirit made by Destilería y Bodega Abasolo from ancestral cacahuazintle maize, cultivated in the high valleys and foothills of the Nevado de Toluca volcano, using the nixtamalization process. It begins aromatically with hints of cornbread, toasted corn, vanilla, and caramel. Its rich and full body culminates in a balanced and creamy finish, with added notes of dried fruits and roasted nuts. December 2022
The attractive bottle first grabs your attention, then the flavor. It's quite distinct, definitely nixtamalized corn with earthy notes. It pairs wonderfully with Amaro Montenegro.
This is nearly identical to liquid creamed corn, and I mean that in the absolute best way. A touch of sugar and caramel precede vanilla and a dominant sweet corn flavor throughout.
Sweet. Corn. I really enjoy boozy sweet corn. It feels luxurious on the palate. It's good on its own and has been successfully used in some creamy cocktails.
