NEW YORK DISTILLING COMPANY RAGTIME RYE DOUBLE OAK CASK STRENGTH

Nose: Vanilla, oak, butter, grass/hay, citrus. Palate: Oak, hazelnut, bread, salt/saline, sweet. Finish: Short. Wood shavings, caramel, corn tortilla. This is a very flavorful, high-rye content whiskey. A bit salty, very woody, quite dry but with plenty of sweetness from the corn. Flavorful and tempting. My only critique is that the finish is so brief, it just vanishes from the palate. (Still enjoyable, though!)

My impression is based on a small tasting, so I hesitate to make strong pronouncements that might sway others. Dominant oak is present on both the aroma and taste, which is appealing to me. There's some initial sweetness on the tongue, but it's missing the characteristic rye kick I typically find in whiskeys with a higher rye content. The conclusion does indeed fade fast, as noted by others. All in all, I liked this and it's definitely worth sampling!
